A marquise-cut blue sapphire centers this 14-karat yellow gold ring from the 1960s, its deep color set within a cluster of round brilliant diamonds. The diamonds fan out around the sapphire in an outline that echoes its elongated marquise shape. Marquise-cut stones point at both ends, a shape that has long been used to stretch a stone's visual length beyond its actual size.
