Two oval blue sapphires totaling 2.56 carats sit one above the other in a raised yellow gold bar at the center of this 18-karat Retro ring from the 1940s. Sculpted gold claws hold each stone at its corners, and the medium blue reads clear and even across both. Pavé panels of old mine cut diamonds, set in white-toned metal, flank the bar on either side. These hand-cut diamonds have a high crown and a small table, and they throw broader flashes of light than a modern brilliant cut. The wide, stepped top lies flat across the finger before tapering into a substantial shank, giving the ring the presence of a statement piece.
