Antique 1.3CT Rose Cut Diamond Engagement Ring, Silver Topped 10k Gold

Antique rose-cut diamond solitaire ring, centered on a single rose cut in a broad silver bezel, with blackened silver shoulders set with small salt-and-pepper diamonds. The head is silver-topped 10K gold, and a slim rose-toned gold band completes it. In our experience, this is Ottoman-tradition work from the Eastern Mediterranean, made roughly 100 to 140 years ago.

A rose cut this size is a statement. With no pointed underside, all of its weight sits in the face, so it covers more of the finger than a modern brilliant of the same carat weight would. The domed crown of triangular facets gives a soft glow where a brilliant would glitter. Ottoman jewelers called these stones roza, and in the 1800s they were among the most popular diamonds in the empire.

Jewelers set diamonds in silver to make them look whiter and backed them with gold for strength, and this ring does both. The bezel sits about 7mm off the finger, so the ring wears lower than it looks. It would make a gorgeous engagement or cocktail ring.
