A pear-shaped rutilated quartz of approximately 22 carats, clear and shot through with golden needles, centers this estate 14-karat yellow gold cocktail ring. The needles cross in every direction, several of them spanning nearly the full length of the stone. They are rutile, a titanium mineral that crystallizes inside the quartz as it grows, and their hair-like form earned the material its trade name, Venus hair stone. Claw prongs raise the stone above a wide, tapering band, and the open gallery beneath keeps the setting from adding bulk to a ring already built at cocktail scale.
