Openwork diamond stars wrap the dome of this 1990s platinum ring around a 2.66-carat oval royal blue Madagascar sapphire. Each star is cut clean through the metal and pavé-set with round brilliant diamonds, leaving the dome airy and open from every side. Sapphire ranks 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond, which suits a center stone held this high and this exposed. The dome narrows to a slim shank at the back, giving the ring a cocktail-ring presence on top while it sits comfortably between the fingers.
