Vintage 14K/18K Black Gold 1.63 Carat Oval Sapphire & Diamond Bombé Cluster Ring

This 18-karat black gold bombé ring rises into a full pavé dome centered on a 1.63-carat oval blue sapphire. A scalloped double halo of diamonds frames the center, with openwork between the two tiers. Round sapphires shading from deep to pale blue cover the rest of the dome, scattered with diamonds. Bombé is French for "domed," the trade term for a ring that swells upward from the shank. The broad, high dome gives the ring cocktail-ring scale, and the shank narrows sharply toward the palm to keep the underside slim.
