Vintage 14K Gold Onyx & Mother of Pearl Door Knocker Drop Earrings

These vintage door knocker earrings in 14-karat yellow gold pair a round black onyx cabochon with a pear-shaped mother of pearl drop. A polished gold bar with ball finials links the two, and the pear hangs from it on a hinge, so it moves gently as you turn your head. Mother of pearl is nacre, the layered material a mollusk builds along the inside of its shell. The onyx sits flush on the lobe and the drop falls well below it, drawing a clean black-and-white line from post to point that holds its own as a statement pair.
