Vintage 1960s Mid Century Artisan 13K Gold Mabé Pearl Freeform Prong Brooch Pin

Four freeform gold prongs curl over a silvery blue-gray mabé pearl in this vintage mid-century artisan brooch in 13K yellow gold. Each prong follows its own curve and reaches in from an irregular gold frame that traces the outline of the pearl. Mabé pearls are cultured as a dome against the inside of the oyster shell, then cut free and backed with mother-of-pearl. The dome stands well up from the fabric, which gives the brooch enough presence to hold its own on a coat lapel or the neckline of a heavy knit.
