A hand-carved onyx cameo, its white profile carved in deep relief against a black ground, centers this 14-karat gold cocktail ring from the 1960s. A close-fitting halo of pearls encircles the panel, carrying the eye around the profile in one unbroken loop. Cameo carving works with the stone's natural banding, cutting away the pale top layer to leave the raised figure standing against the darker layer beneath. Raised at the center, the dome gives the ring real cocktail presence, while its narrow shank keeps it comfortable for a smaller hand.
