A freeform spray of five diamonds and an oval opal cabochon shapes this vintage 1950s ring in two-tone 14-karat gold. Hand-engraved crosshatching textures the yellow gold swirls that curl around the opal, and each diamond sits in its own white gold head. Opal's play-of-color comes from tiny silica spheres that diffract light, so its flashes of green and blue shift as the ring moves. The cluster sits low and angles across the finger on a slender shank, so it wears close to the hand for everyday use.
