Vintage 1970s Tanzanite & Diamond Halo Drop Earrings in 14K Gold

Oval violet-blue tanzanites, 4.30 carats in total, sit in smooth gold bezels at the center of these vintage 14-karat yellow gold halo stud earrings from the 1970s. A scalloped halo of single-cut diamonds, each stone framed in milgrain, circles every tanzanite, and one more diamond caps the top of each earring. Single-cut diamonds have 17 or 18 facets compared with a round brilliant’s 57 or 58, so they return light in fewer, broader flashes. Each earring sits close against the lobe on a post and butterfly back, and its compact oval outline frames the face without hanging below the ear.
