Vintage Freshwater Pearl & Diamond Dragonfly Brooch, 14K White Gold

A 12-millimeter cream freshwater pearl forms the body of this 14-karat white gold dragonfly brooch from the 1980s, with round brilliant diamonds set across the head. Each wing is pierced into an open lattice of gold veins, and the tail is worked in finely ridged segments. Dragonflies were a favorite subject of Art Nouveau jewelers at the turn of the 20th century. The pierced wings let the fabric show through, so the brooch reads light on a lapel, coat collar, or scarf.
