Vintage Paola Ferro 18K Yellow Gold Turquoise Dome Ring

This Paola Ferro dome ring in 18 karat yellow gold sets a rectangular turquoise cabochon low into its crown. The frosted gold has the grain of warm sand, and the turquoise sits in it like a small pool of water. Paola Ferro designed in Milan with her husband, Piero, drawing on antique pieces the couple collected on frequent travels through Asia and the Middle East, and their 18 karat gold work carries a strong multiethnic influence. The frosted surface is a texture worked into the gold. It scatters light into a soft glow instead of a mirror shine, which keeps the eye on the stone. The dome is broadest across the top and thins toward the back, so the weight sits on top of the finger and the underside slips easily between its neighbors.
